I’d always been fascinated by other peoples and cultures, because growing up in a small US town, I didn’t have much exposure, so I always liked differences and learning about them. My grandfather would always share old issues of National Geographic and atlases with me. I would spend hours looking through maps and learning flags from around the world. It fascinated me. . Working for #CIA was always an idea that had intrigued me. My mother, before she married my dad, had been accepted to enter the clerical cadre here at CIA, so it had always been in the back of my mind as an option. Between that and James Bond movies, I thought it would be a pretty interesting place to work. . Coming in, you don’t really know what you’re getting. There are plenty of movies and books about the “spy world,” but very few are giving you an accurate depiction of a day in the life of an analyst. I guess it’s not that exciting to show us crafting an analytic line for the President’s Daily Brief. Regardless, it didn’t take me long to buy-in. I think it was my second day that I bought my lifetime membership with the Agency’s employee activity association. . There’s a level of understanding that you get by being with someone who also works here. They know what the work entails, they know that the stakes are high.
