Welcome back to the State of Black Beauty! In celebration of Black History, no matter the month, ELLE.com brought together top innovators and tastemakers in the beauty industry for a roundtable discussion on joy, beauty and how we can push the industry to do more. “Black beauty is omnipresent. Everywhere at once.” @sirjohn says. “When I think of Black beauty, I think of any and every person that has originated from the diaspora throughout the world. Our features and melanin are everywhere and have cascaded out all throughout the globe.”
“There is still a lot more the industry can do to become more inclusive,” adds @ursulastephen. “At this point, the individual mindset has to change, and then everything else will fall into place. I dream of a time where we don’t have to start a sentence off with ‘the first Black…’ that’s when I know we’re doing better.”
