As the world watched the events of last summer unfold and society reckoned with racial injustice, Akeisha, a district manager in Chicago, thought of her four daughters.​

“It was heartbreaking,” says Akeisha, after the memorial her daughters made to honor Breonna Taylor was vandalized repeatedly. “It brings the reality to them, that racism is real, that some people hate other people because of the color of their skin.”​

No stranger to challenging situations and tough conversations, Akeisha encourages her girls to take an active role in creating change and tries to emphasize the importance of personal accountability. ​

“It’s time to teach them, to make sure they’re involved. There are better days to come if we continue to work together and love each other. We will make a difference.”​
