(‘‘We were a little bit star-struck,’’ Amira says.) Growing up with a music-producer dad, the sisters became curious about the classic hip-hop recordings and equipment that filled their house. So when they were 9, he started to show them the basics, like how to pick tracks and transition between songs. Not long after, they performed at their elementary school. ‘‘It was a blast,’’ Kayla says. ‘‘We just knew we wanted to continue it professionally.’’   Their ‘‘big break,’’ Amira says, came when they were 11, after their video featuring the Notorious B.I.G. song ‘‘Unbelievable’’ went viral. It has been viewed around three million times and led to an appearance on ‘‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.’’ Now they practice around two hours each day to master new techniques. The form of D.J.ing Amira and Kayla practice is called turntablism: when D.J.s use the turntable itself as a musical instrument, rather than just playing one song after the next. They each bring something different to the duo. Kayla ‘‘is more aggressive on the turntables,’’ says their dad, who also acts as their manager, while Amira is more rhythmic.   The pandemic has made playing live harder. But the twins have continued performing at virtual events and creating videos for their Instagram (@djsamiraandkayla). They admit that it’s not always easy to make music with your twin sister. ‘‘We fight most of the time,’’ Amira says. But it never gets in the way of their music. ‘‘We always make up,’’ Kayla adds. 🎧 To learn more about Amira and Kayla’s influences and their tips on how to try out D.J.ing, check out our January issue that comes out Sunday in your copy of @nytimes. 📰 🔍: Reporting by Katherine Cusumano  📸: Photograph by @jesspettway ✨: Styling by @stylegalbee #djsamiraandkayla #djamiraandka」2月1日 4時04分 - ericksonbeamon
