Photo by Keith Ladzinski @Keith Ladzinski / A pair of snow petrels take flight from a hanging cornice deep in the heart of interior Antarctica in Queen Maud Land. In the nesting season, colonies of these birds nest among the safety of remote cliffs roughly 200 miles from the nearest body of water. Every few days one of the adults makes the long commute to the sea to collect food and fly it back to the hungry chicks awaiting—a true testament to survival in a the merciless frozen continent.
