Working with mothers and children is very important to me as an Artist and Educator because this reflects how ngatu is made in Tonga: it is always made inside of community with grandmothers, mothers, children and grandchildren. It keeps me connected. “We come from the future” is a community mural featuring grandmothers, mothers and daughters who live in Brooklyn and who are from China, Jamaica, Palestine and Puerto Rico. We had mural arts classes in Brooklyn every Saturday for 5 months. During these classes, we created art with mothers and their children which was featured in the mural.
