Photo by @brentstirton / Recently I covered the U.S. Senate elections in Savannah, Georgia, where I met an inspiring group of women who crowdfunded a vehicle carrying dramatic neon artwork of Stacey Abrams. They drove up from Texas to Georgia for a month, offering lifts and advice on how people could get out the vote. They wanted to help people exercise their rights and not have that diminished. I shot this image at the end of a rally where then Vice President-elect Kamala Harris was speaking. The next day the Democrats won both seats. Stacey Abrams is a lawyer and a political activist. She was the first Black woman to become the gubernatorial nominee for a major party in the United States. After witnessing what she termed the gross mismanagement of the 2018 election by the secretary of state’s office, Abrams launched Fair Fight to ensure that every American has a voice in the election system through programs such as an initiative to fund and train voter protection teams in 20 battleground states. She never took voting for granted.
