In a new Personal History, the poet John Matthias writes about his life with his wife of more than 50 years, Diana. After receiving a Parkinson’s diagnosis, Diana began experiencing hallucinations. “At first, Diana could identify her illusions as such, and sometimes even dismiss them,” Matthias writes. “The things she saw were not always frightening. Many of them seemed inspired by her work in the visual arts.” In November of 2019, however, a new kind of confusion about both space and time took hold. Then the pandemic hit.
