The Skillfully Crafted Ajimagasa
(Takagi Village)

Ajimagasa is a traditional craft which has been made in Takagi Village since the Edo Period.

At the peak of its popularity, there were over 100 shops crafting these umbrellas, but as time went by the number of craftsmen dwindled, and now there is only one full-time Ajimagasa maker left.

Its beautiful geometric patterns are imbued with the craftsman’s skill and knowledge.

喬木村（たかぎむら）で
江戸時代から伝わる
伝統工芸品「阿島傘」☂️

最盛期は100軒以上の
和傘屋が軒を連ねていましたが
時代と共に職人の数が激減し
現在は生業として営むのは
1軒のみとなっています🍃

幾何学模様のような美しい姿は
職人の技と知恵がつめこまれています✨
