I’m an ecologically focused grower, forager and home cook, trained in horticulture and regenerative, agroecological growing practices like permaculture and forest gardening (a form of agroforestry). I believe human wellbeing is totally connected to that of the Earth’s soils, ecosystems and the whole planet at large. My mission is to inspire reconnection to the natural world, so I teach people how to grow food and herbs listening to nature, forage and prepare their harvests. I find understanding where our foods comes from, relating to the process behind getting that potato on our plates, offers the fastest route into grasping a truly symbiotic relationship with nature. There is something so beyond inspiring and hopeful about physically nurturing a space that is not only vibrantly alive, with health soils and abundant diversity, but also offering food and medicine... It teaches us our interconnected place within nature, rather than external to it. It gives space to let go of the extractive, coloniser mindset that is driving the climate emergency and human rights abuse that inevitably go with it. Engaging with nature can give us harvests of nutrient dense food, healing herbs, lessons on living more gently on the Earth and a place to build community while stepping towards greater food sovereignty and a more equitable, truly sustainable food system. When we grow plants, we grow ourselves too.
