Sursock, also known as Lady Cochrane, was one of more than 200 people who died from injuries sustained when 2,750 tonnes of ammonium nitrate exploded in the Beirut port on August 4. I had the pleasure of photographing the family during my time as a resident of the city. It took 20 years of careful restoration for the family to bring the 160-year-old palace back to its former glory after the country's 15-year civil war.
