Amazon is pledging to invest more than $2 billion over the next five years toward affordable housing in Seattle, Nashville and Arlington, Virginia. "This new $2 billion Housing Equity Fund will create or preserve 20,000 affordable homes in all three of our headquarters regions," Amazon CEO and founder Jeff Bezos said. Amazon has been criticized in the past for gentrifying the areas where it has opened large operations and driving up the cost of housing. ⁠
