I am saddened today to hear of the passing of legendary film director Michael Apted. He won the Golden Globe award for Coal Minner’s Daughter, the last installment of the Narnia films, The World Is Not Enough James Bond film, Gorky Park, Nell, Gorillas In The Mist and countless others. I first came across his work when I saw the fascinating film series 7-Up in which he filmed a group of 14 seven year olds every 7 years (14 Up, 21 Up, etc) the most recent of them was 63-Up. I had the great privilege of doing the music for one of his films Always Outnumbered which started Laurence Fishburne for @HBO. He was a joy to work with and amazing to watch on set as he was a master of the craft of film making and equally so as a coach of great actors. He even gave me a small Cameo in the film as a piano player in a bar. (I can’t actually play piano so I actually had to do some serious acting lol). He was an advocate for social change and the arts. If you have a chance to watch any of the 7-Up series, it’s incredible and Always Outnumbered is a powerful film written by the also legendary author @waltermosely #restinpeace #thankyou
