On Jan. 7, the day after a pro-Trump mob stormed the U.S. Capitol, a protective plastic bag covers a defaced bust of President Zachary Taylor and workers were seen cleaning up the damage, sweeping up broken glass and debris. During the tense hours when the Capitol was under siege on Wednesday, President Trump lost the support of many people working for him inside the White House. "Almost every single person was just absolutely horrified and the mood was really tense" in the West Wing, a source familiar with the situation says.
