It takes up to 100 stencils to make a bolt of kimono fabric using Kyoto's Kata-yuzen dyeing technique. 👘 After the pattern is cut into the paper stencils, a layer of resin is applied. It’s then brushed over and colors are faded, creating a 3D effect. This pattern requires 26 stencils, and despite their reuse, no two kimonos are the same. 🌸💮
