The sunrise trek to this high plateau involved snowshoeing for about an hour in the dark with more than 1,000 feet of elevation gain, and on my third morning of doing it, I was running out of enthusiasm. The conditions were tricky at first. Backcountry skiers and animals had tracked up all of the open views that I found appealing, and the snow was melting everywhere. Long days of unrewarded efforts were wearing me down. On the final morning, I was so tired when I set out that it took me several minutes to notice the flurry of snowflakes reflecting in the light of my headlamp. Amazingly, many inches of snow had fallen while I was sleeping, and the landscape had been transformed overnight. Reaching the plateau well before dawn, I had plenty of time to position myself where I could balance the visual ‘weight’ of the rising sun with the mass of a snow-capped boulder opposite it. Layers of ridges in between those two points picked up the light and echoed the marvelous diagonal rays in the sky, helping to pull the whole composition together. I was thrilled. If you’ve never seen somebody dance on snowshoes, let me just tell you that it can be done!" 📸 #Canon EOS 5D Mark III Lens: EF 16-35mm f/2.8L II USM」12月28日 23時02分 - canonusa
