We all got body painted technicolor shades of purple, blue, green and so on by the late great Kevin Aucoin. When we wrapped Kevin didn’t have any makeup remover or wipes (of course!) so Stella and I both walked through SOHO and into the subway her with her son. I clearly remember how un-phased she was, she couldn’t care less about the bewildered stares of the entire subway. She just carried on talking to me with her son in a stroller hopping off at her stop with a cool bye! I know many in fashion and beyond are sad today at her passing, she was truly a remarkable woman, one who never got sucked into the fray of fashion. She was above it, she was an artist herself and modeling was another way of expressing that, which is why all these years she still captivated so many. She never courted attention, or wanted to be a supermodel but those are the most beguiling because when she stepped in front of a camera, magic happened. She was part of a time when models didn’t have social media and it was just about the performance in the high fashion pages. She inspired so many photographers and designers and the industry as a whole just being her cool and pragmatic self. There was never any artifice! It’s so hard and admirable to pull off in fashion.
