Peaceful, right? Depsite the best planning, expedtions rarely go as planned. While on assignment, I've been arrested, harassed, followed, surveyed, broken my back, nearly drowned, and been so sick I thought I actually might die...but it's still the best job in the world. @hilareenelson reading while under house arrest on expedition in Northern Myanmar. Our expedition was momentarily placed under house arrest/admistrative hold while permissions were clarified and sorted out. Because of the conflicted nature of the territory we were moving through, local authorities were skeptical of our clearance and briefly blocked any forward motion. Like I said, usually expeditions don't go as planned. All part of the fun.
