She was wearing her signature nose ring and the shot is from an iconic @annasui show. @kimpaper used to take over two issues a year for her collections coverage and they were always legendary. Around the time this issue came out Kim and I hailed a taxi at the corner of Broadway & Spring in Soho. A cab pulled over and the girl inside tried to get out but the door was jammed. She leaned back and kicked the door open then emerged, a gorgeous, six-foot tall glamazon in thigh-high boots, smiling and saying hello as she glided by. Kim elbowed me and said “It’s the Princess with the nose ring! The one from our cover.” Of course it was Stella, whose grandmother was Deborah, Duchess of Devonshire. Years later, I ran into Stella and was telling her how obsessed I was with her grandmother, and all the Mitford sisters in general. Stella was genuinely excited and said, “OMG, have you been to Chatsworth? You have to go visit. My grandmother would be so excited to meet you!” What a legend and what a tragic loss.
