The Buttermilks' huge granite boulders are the quintessence of what I'm looking for in bouldering, and the area is still one of my all-time favourites. • Just as we arrived we got shutdown by a four-day snowstorm, which made getting to the boulders an adventure by itself. Funny anecdote: at 80 mph wind @katha_saurwein got lifted while carrying a crashpad and was saved by some (thorny) bushes from flying off like a bird. 🕊 • The Buttermilks automatically get you sucked into highballing (which resembles soloing from time to time), but as we were still young, our backs were springy and we happily collected airmiles onto double-layer crashpads. • It feels like we shovelled more snow than on a mountaineering expedition (trying to get the boulders dry), but, and this might be hard to believe nowadays, we had the Milks to ourselves 😎. Funny anecdote: I 'fell' off the top mantle of the 'Mandala sit' (8B), which back then was my hardest boulder by far, because the holds I had shovelled the previous day were iced over at night 🤣. • All in all, back then we thought we had the worst of luck, but I now realize these are the trips you never forget!」12月16日 2時06分
