Farewell Paolo.

What sad news this morning.

Paolo Rossi, “Pablito” has passed away: for the entire nation, he was the man of an unforgettable Mundial, and for us, he was so much more.

Paolo is an entire generation of Juventus players who cheered with him, in front of televisions that, month after month, turned into colour. But our wonderful joys continued to be in black and white.

If you take a deep dive into your childhood room, or in your attics, you will probably find a poster of that incredible Juve.

He was a Bianconero (in the youth teams, with three appearances in the Italian Cup) already from 1973 to 1975, but the "real" Juventus adventure began again in 1981, even if inevitably, that season saw him on the field only three times in Serie A. Those three times however, were enough to make him (and Mister Bearzot) mature that vision that lead him to Spain, where he became the protagonist with incredible goals in incredible matches, and of course, where he returned home with a World Cup that no one will ever forget. And at the end of 1982, he lifted the trophy fit for only the strongest footballers on the planet, the Golden Ball. He was a natural goalscorer and could score in any method: headers, with quick feet, and sudden insertions.

Paolo scored in every way, making the most of his physical appearance. “Beware of Rossi”, the goalkeeper would say, and when you, the defender, turned around, he had already scored.

Forty-four was the total number of goals he scored in his wonderful Juventus period: goals thanks to which Pablito and Juve in those seasons brought home two Scudetti, an Italian Cup and three European laurels, the Cup Winners' Cup, the European Super Cup and the Champions League.

If you have found that poster of that magnificent Juve, open it, and admire it in a special way that the guy with the number nine on his shoulders would do. Because few are born like him.

Goodbye, Pablito.
