Strolling around @Ruinart’s vineyards in Autumn is the perfect time to contemplate nature and learn about its ongoing life cycle.
The Champagne Maison explains that the color of the vines during autumn is due to the movement of sugar from the leaves to the roots near the end of the vegetative cycle, in preparation for winter. The vine stops producing carbohydrates from the chlorophyll in the leaves. The sap of the vines goes down to the roots where the reserves will be stored for the next growing season. Without sugar nutrients, the leaves lose their green color and eventually fall off.
