Photo by @erintrieb / One year ago, in November 2019, thousands of Iraqis organized to protest Iraq’s sectarian political system and government corruption. For several months Iraqi youth occupied central Baghdad, where hundreds of protestors were killed and thousands injured, prompting Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi to resign. COVID-19 brought Iraq’s protests to a halt, but the impact of the protests continues to be felt. Here, a young Iraqi taunts Iraqi security forces from atop a tuk-tuk after Iraqi security forces fired tear gas and rubber bullets. For more human stories from around the world follow @erintrieb.
