The name Record first entered the Campagnolo catalog during the 1960s, so to distinguish the new model released in 1973 it was called the Super Record.

In its first version, this changer, derived from the old Nuovo Record and Record, was made with a single color available for the external derailleur arm, while the body was anodized black and made in Ergal, a superlight alloy.
