“I’ve been absolutely terrified every moment of my life—and I’ve never let it keep me from doing a single thing I wanted to do.”
— Georgia O'Keeffe
Today, we're celebrating the great modernist #GeorgiaOKeeffe, born #OnThisDay in 1887. In this work, she isolates a single skull, highlighting its jagged edges, worn surfaces, and bleached color. To O’Keeffe, such bones represented the desert’s enduring beauty and the strength of the American spirit.
See it on view in #MakingTheMet through January 3, 2021.
