Hospitalizations for Covid-19 climbed to 67,096 on Thursday, according to the Covid Tracking Project. It was the third straight day of record numbers, and the figure has doubled in just 5 weeks.   Dr. Anthony Fauci, the top infectious disease expert in the U.S., urged Americans to “double down” on basic preventive precautions like social distancing and wearing masks. Breaking from its tentative recommendations on mask use thus far, @cdcgov said on Tuesday that using masks benefits wearers, which is a step beyond its previous declaration that said wearing masks would protect only those around people wearing them.
