Lois Young, Belize’s ambassador to the United Nations, says that the US has critical influence on the international climate movement, and that the world won’t succeed in overcoming the climate crisis without American leadership. Young has previously accused big polluters like the US of “ecocide” and has called the Trump administration’s policies on climate “a total disaster.” The administration withdrew from the Paris climate accord in 2017, and has rolled back various environmental regulations. Studies have shown the so-called “Trump Effect” has made it easier for other countries to renege on their climate commitments. @cnnclimate
