In September, @JoshuaVides partnered with @MCAChicago to debut an exhibit titled, ‘Forever Hallway,’ which inspired the creation of a limited Converse Chuck 70 capsule.
Beginning as a hand-painted 40-foot canvas—the largest Vides has worked on his career to date—the canvas was cut, stitched, and fashioned into 30 unique pairs of Chuck 70s, now up for auction. Each of the uppers is distinct, showcasing Vides’ signature black-and-white marker aesthetic on the iconic silhouette.
“Through this project, my focus was on rewriting the expected relationship between an artist and a museum. I was thinking about going beyond the usual experience of art and how I could extend that conversation, how I could bring my background in sneaker culture into the art world,” shares Vides. “The idea was to create a fresh, new dialogue where your mind starts to shift towards—what else can I do?”
The auction will run exclusively on the Heritage Auction website (link in our stories) through November 13 and proceeds will benefit the mission of the museum. #ConverseAllStars
