While black tufted-eared marmosets like MacKensie are often spotted throughout Brazilian cities like Rio de Janeiro, they are actually not native to most developed areas. Their presence in busy cities is instead the result of gradual introductions due to the species being kept as pets. While they have adapted well to developed areas and disturbed forests, these small primates are most at home in lush primary forests where they can live high up in the treetops, just below the canopy.
