Brian Mosley (@electriccatnip) thinks of his art and music as “avant-garde catnip.” For humans.⁣

His eclectic cat-themed dream world is full of “audio-visual oddities for the perceptually curious” that blend analog techniques with modern digital visuals. “I like art that uses the absurd to make serious ideas more approachable, that’s something I try to do with my work,” says Brian.⁣

“The goal of Electric Catnip has always been to basically paint dreams directly into people’s brains. I’d love for people to experience surreal moments in their own lives and have them feel like an ‘Electric Catnip’ moment. If someone is sitting with their cat, questioning reality, and in a moment of realization their cat speaks to them in their imagination, I’d love for them to think of that as Electric Catnip. ⁣

Cats are these uncompromisingly self-actualized creatures with a whole world of symbolism around them. As characters, they exude knowledge, but at the same time have a silliness to them, so they allow for a fun way to discuss concepts that can sometimes get too heavy.⁣

My art is all about dreaming and reflecting, and I think we’re all doing a lot of that right now, but this year it’s almost a kind of overload, trying to filter it down into something presentable as art.”⁣
