I always loved the patchwork marble in the stores at @oldceline, you see. When I found out that Hedi was ripping up the flooring (RIP), i hurried over to my local to see if i could bargain with the shop staff. I asked (sorry, begged) them to sell me the scraps. Spoiler: hedi doesnt let you buy @oldceline memorabilia. The day i started thinking about what would work with our kitchen murano lights, i couldn’t get this marble medley out of my head, probably because we’d just got back from a trip to Mexico city where i spotted a marble floor by artist Martin Creed at the Jumex Museum. Our airbnb also had a version of this marvellous melange and its all i dreamed about for a week upon getting home (remember when we all thought the world was ending and were stocking up on bogroll? Dreaming of beautiful spaces felt appropriate). I knew we couldn’t make it work as we are renting (i already made the mistake of altering a place you have to give back. A word of caution: don’t do it!), so thought a table would be the perfect compromise. I got in touch with @marble.partners and because of lockdown we did it all over zoom. They couldn’t source any stones for ages as they only use salvaged marble. Each stone is handpicked and unique so we had to be patient. We waited until she was the perfect jumble of warm vs neutral (a tricky game because when you shift one, the whole puzzle moves). I can’t wait to take her home and enjoy setting the table for my Deliveroo until we can have people round for din. Thank you so much @marble.partners @miacastenskjold.
