Yes, I have COVID. Yes, I ‘deserve it’, because I travelled this Summer (oddly enough I visited 8 countries & ended up being sick at home in the US).
::
Yes, I knew I would get it sooner or later — according to many studies most of us will need to get it for the lockdowns to stop.
::
At the beginning, I was super diligent about self-isolation. In the first four months I saw maybe 3-4 friends towards the end, but otherwise I was all alone in my apartment.
::
I want to talk about why I started ‘putting myself out there’. Because for empaths and mentally sensitive people there are so many more serious implications of this virus than just getting sick.
::
When you lost your job and aren’t making any money and have no one to talk to it, you get to the point of total resignation and helplessness.
::
When you can’t hug your friends, when you are suspicious of every stranger, of every door knob - when you live in fear every day that you or someone that you love may die - your fight or flight response is at its highest (and stress is no 1 reason for a compromised immune system).
::
People will say ‘stop being dramatic’, because for a mentally strong person, when someone mentions depression or anxiety or any mental health related issue, they will say ‘get over it’, ‘oh come on’, ‘pathetic this is hard for you, others have it much worse’. That’s why there is always shame surrounded mental struggles.
::
You gonna get a lot of empathy fighting COVID and very little fighting depression and confusion with what this pandemic caused in your life. There has been more suicides & domestic violence cases this year than any other year in the history of the world.
::
I’m not saying we should all go and travel or stop wearing masks. But I’m I’m tired of judging & one-upping each other who has it worse.
::
Social media always make it seem like everyone has it under control but us. They don’t. I don’t.
::
Also, this is great news that you are struggling without human connection - means you’re a warm human! This is all hard. But you & I can do hard things. Remember that:)
