Look carefully and you’ll see that overhead a witch is riding a goat backwards 🔮 In the late 15th and early 16th centuries, German audiences were captivated by the bestselling book ‘Malleus maleficarum’ (The Witches’ Hammer), first published in 1487. It contained vivid descriptions of witches’ rituals and powers, and advocated for their extermination – this colour woodcut seized on the popular subject.
