The first time I went to Montana I met a young Native American woman who was the bartender at the ranch I stayed at. We became friends; this is the first time I learned that Native Women are the most at risk group for death, rape & trafficking then any other. Criminals go onto the Reservations knowing the US government & local authorities cannot protect them there and they commit the most horrendous acts of violence on women. The Reservations are not staffed and cannot or do not investigate. These women are never accounted for. The women I met told me she is not safe on or off of the Reservation & is always worried about her safety, she and women like her are targets that sex offenders know they will never be protected. Imagine living this way everyday.
