Part of a new body of work, Whiteread’s "Untitled (Pinboard)" is cast from a studio bulletin board that holds images, notes, sketches, and other information. Whiteread has likened this type of visual arrangement to “looking out of a window.” In sculptures such as this, her use of casting subverts the technique’s usual role as a replicative process; the works differ from their originals and bear the haptic traces of human intervention, evoking narratives and memories belonging to the source objects.
