Ellen and I have been talking about how there have been three seasons - two that have passed and one that is passing - since we all went into lockdown at the end of last winter.

In many ways, it feels as if we never truly had a spring, a summer. It felt captive, closed off. Quiet. No running and jumping off the dock on a hot day into our cool northern lake, no long visits with dear friends.

For us, the making of home, at home - a complete transition and transformation of life as we knew it, while transitioning and transforming LIFE as we all knew it - and now winter is coming and didn’t we just leave it?

I’ve always struggled with winter, but this year I’ve been looking forward to snuggling in, hibernating, hoping we come out on the other side to the true reprieve of spring.
