Meet Jesus Herrera (@donatellaversanchez), pictured above, and Gabriel Brandon-Hanson, the designer duo behind @lesjesus.mx: As they describe it, the guiding philosophy of @lesjesus.mx is their wish to draw a parallel between the meticulousness of European couture and the labor-intensive textiles they have sourced in Mexico, many of which are dying traditions. (Artisans make the textiles, which Herrera and Brandon-Hanson turn into the final garments.) “It’s about recognition, really,” says Brandon-Hanson. “Knowing how a Chanel jacket is made, then going to a 400-person mountain town in Mexico where you see comparable weaving, that’s just extraordinary. You think, Why is no one paying attention to how incredibly valuable this is?”
