As I prepare to move I’m going through my endless racks of clothes trying to cull down to the essentials and those pieces with the most vibrant memories attached. In the process I find my greatest attachments are to my coats and I must admit my bags. Everything else seems much easier to recycle, donate or sell. My coats comfort and warm me like a much needed hug. They are my signature when fashion week comes in February. My bags seem to contain all my little fantasies, notebooks, pens and other objects that give hints of my current pursuits. As I go through them I find business cards from events, paper clips, old lipsticks, slips of paper I sampled perfume with and half of a lost earring pair. So here I am in the midst of my last days in the city. The coat I wear is a country coat. Plaid with a fringe like the car blankets my mother threw in the station wagon for a long trip. This coat is my escort from here to there and will gather new memories as it does. The perfect companion for a new journey.
