After a few years learning how to write songs, doing shows anywhere i could around LA, passing out literal flyers & CD’s on street corners, sending my demos to anyone & everyone i could, sneaking into industry events all over LA & leaving my demos on tables, in purses & car windows, i got “discovered” by an incredible publisher at Rondor Music at the time Barbara Vanderlinde (ily Babs!) when i was maybe 20. Barbara really believed in me & saw my raw talent. She signed me to an artist publishing deal & really worked so closely w/me on developing my skills as a songwriter & artist. I was doing sessions every day, sometimes twice/three times a day just honing in my skill & artistry. Long story VERY short, i put a demo together & we started sending it around & it got the attention of an A&R @joannaifrah at London/Sire Records (Madonna’s old label omg I’ve made it!)-Joanna was my champion. So many A&R’s didn’t get me, one said i didn’t have a good enough ass to be a pop star (not kidding), but Joanna did. She signed me to London/Sire Records & shortly after they folded but she continued to work with me & then signed me again to S-Curve/EMI Records. I worked with some of the best writers around for a few years making, in my mind, the album that would change my life forever. Two writers in particular really took me under their wings & i believe that time was when i truly learned the craft of pop songwriting...thank u forever for your mentorship @desmond.child & @thehitlife I luv u both so much. So at maybe 24, it was time to put out my first single “Girl on the Verge”-this was it! We made this gorgeous expensive video & my pop debut album “Naked Truth” was ready to b released! I knew there were some issues going on in the label-SO CUT TO-right before my single/album was set to be released, i got a phone call saying the president of the label was leaving & i would be dropped. BOOM. AFTER ALL THAT. No record. No tour. No nothing. I can’t even begin to explain how UNBELIEVABLY gutted i was. So besides party the pain away, WHAT THE FUCK AM I GONNA DO NOW?!
