Growing up, I didn’t see stories of families like mine or people that looked like me in mainstream media, and that had an effect in my confidence. I was a first-gen college student and one of the first in my family to step into the corporate world, and through it all I struggled with finding my voice. I felt like my opinion didn’t matter because I didn’t know enough, like I was always one step behind, because I didn’t have the life and experience that I saw in movies & TV, and within my peer groups. But I’ve come to realize my story and my family’s story is my strength. My grandparents immigrated to the US from Mexico, not knowing English, sacrificing everything, to give their children opportunities for a better life. My parents encouraged me to dream and worked hard to give me access to the best resources they could provide, so I could have a better life. I do still struggle sometimes with finding my voice, but my family’s perseverance and strength motivates me, and I’m so proud & forever grateful to them ❤️ And now I get to work to bring these stories to life here on PINK’s IG, because REPRESENTATION MATTERS!
