In May, these students became some of the first in the country to return to the classroom. Despite there only being 16 days left in the school year, the decision was made to reopen because it is a small, rural community that had no reported cases of COVID-19. Numerous safety protocols, temperature checks, social distancing measures, and masks on faculty and staff were in place. The educators were as much focused on students' emotional well-being as academic progress. No cases arose in the community as a result of the reopening.
