Since I was already in Jersey for the opening of the @moobyspopup and the #jayandsilentbobgetold 10th Anniversary show, I hopped a Florida flight and hopefully dodged Covid along the way to visit @donsgirlgrace! The February to September stretch was the longest I think I’ve ever gone without being around my Mom. Mercifully, my brother Don and his husband Jerry live nearby - so Mom’s rarely alone. She’s avoided catching Corona but she did take a nasty tumble while putting out the garbage last week at 1am (hence the gash over her eye). I got to Don’s house at 10pm and we all stayed up until 4am talking and laughing and then crying we were laughing so hard. It was a delightful night and I had a great time giggling with the two people I’ve known the longest in my life! My entire early worldview was shaped by Mom and Don, so as you might imagine, we all get along incredibly well. Last night we re-litigated the biggest blowout we ever saw Mom and Dad get into: the great “Blood is Thicker than Water” Christmas Debacle of 1978. That’s what our family members are: pitch-perfect receptors/amplifiers of lost moments and memories. They retain eyewitness details to otherwise mundane happenings which are obscure to the world but integral in making us who we are. We may be in the middle of the worst public health crisis in over a century, but for a few hours last night, the three of us were blissfully lost in the memories of the 70’s.
