Japan 🇯🇵 has a new Prime Minister -- 71-year-old Yoshihide Suga has replaced Shinzo Abe as the leader of the world's third largest economy. Abe, Japan's longest-serving Prime Minister, resigned in August due to health problems related to colitis, a non-curable inflammatory bowel disease. Suga's election to the top job after winning a vote in Japan's Parliament on Wednesday isn't a surprise -- he was Abe's right-hand man for almost eight years as chief cabinet secretary, a combination of chief of staff and press secretary. The new Prime Minister already faces the daunting challenges of Japan's shrinking economy, ageing population, response to the coronavirus pandemic, and pressing ahead with Tokyo's delayed 2020 Summer Olympics next year.
