The dystopian nightmare happening out west is not a time for us to victimize ourselves rather than a time to take responsibility. A serious overhaul in our relationship towards nature needs to take place and getting back to basics might be a good start. At the end of the day, no material object or convenience matters more than life itself. What does matter, comes from the natural world- the (real) food you put in your mouth, the (clean) air you breathe, the (fresh) water you drink. Ecosystems are being destroyed, the wilderness is up in flames, animals are dying. These are unconditional gifts of the universe put in perfect order for our survival, and they are irreplaceable- we humans are the invasive species. Our haphazard approach towards consumerism leaves a wake of wastelands, not to mention the newfound disconnect in our technology obsessed minds. We need to rebalance, re-educate, restructure and integrate; and put an end to the mentality where we dominate. Get out there- vote, get informed and get involved, on every level- help solve current issues and help prevent further, unnecessary catastrophes.
