Happy birthday to Piero Golia, born on this day, August 24, in Naples, Italy.

Operating in a self-created, multidisciplinary universe of installations, Golia transforms everyday objects and events into monumental works of art and theater.

Golia has crushed a thirty-five-foot public transportation bus to fit a ten-by-twenty-foot booth at Art LA (“Bus,” 2008), orchestrated a days-long fireworks-and-Mariachi-filled celebration at the Dallas Nasher Sculpture Center (“Chalet Dallas,” 2015-16), and is the reason why the orb on top of the Los Angeles Standard Hotel lights up, glowing whenever the artist is in town (“Luminous Sphere,” 2010).
