We were devastated but we decided to tell him the good news, we were finally pregnant and he’s about to become a grandpa for the first time! I remember telling Federico that this will help him to fight and I was sure he will get out of the hospital. We stood next to his bed in the intensive care. I hid the ultrasound pictures behind my back. Federico told his dad in Italian that he has some great news. His dad looked at us both, I started smiling trying to hide my tears and I pulled the picture from behind my back and showed it to him. He nodded with a big smile. He was so so happy for us. I started crying. I wanted him to get up and to come home with us. But he never got up. Federico’s dad passed away days after we told him about Massimo. I’m so glad we told him the good news. I could see the relief in his eyes. He knew how much we struggled for this little miracle.
