Some had even experienced the now shut down detention centre that was up the road from our replica set one. It was this experience that set this project apart for me, from any other. I am grateful to have have been a part of the project. This is a pic of Fatima & me ❤️ “#statelesstv @netflix  Just as #THEHELP intended to tell the real stories of pre civil rights black workers in the North American South, and ended up telling the story of white protagonists instead, (just ask @violadavis ) #STATELESS uses the stories of refugees in Australia as a backdrop for white women (and some men) and their struggles! The performances by Yvonne, Marta and Jai are all good (Fayssal Bazzi and Sarah Pierse are the standouts) but why more stories where we are forced to empathize with captors to understand the captives? Incidentally #AshaKeddie is so good it’s hard not to empathize with her complicated villain   I understand that the plot centers around an Australian with mental health issues based on #CorneliaRau, but why was her life and scandalous detention the impetus for a tv series headed by Hollywood heavyweight #CateBlanchet (in a bizarre turn) instead of countless unheard stories of cruel state sanctioned detention of #refugees and #BIPOC ?!   “Because non BIPOC viewers can't see themselves in BIPOC characters. It's an empathy entry point. Unfortunate but effective. Unfair but true.” Said my cousin @gourmetchaplain   #THEVISITOR beautifully touched on this empathy gap but still necessarily situated a white man (the brilliant #RichardJenkins) at the centre of the tale...
