For Amal in Syria, staying home is nothing new. Facing limited mobility from hip dysplasia, the 16-year-old was forced to drop out of school as a child because of a misdiagnosed speech disorder. Now, with hearing aids and a passion for drawing and learning, she’s taking the #COVID19 lockdown in stride, and finding hope in dark places.
“Amal’s story should be an inspiration for children everywhere,” her older sister says. “They shouldn’t view lockdown as the end of the world; they should find the talents they might have been too busy to discover.”
UNICEF is working with governments across the world to make sure that when schools reopen, they reopen better - and reach the most vulnerable children.
