A selection of Ed Ruscha’s typographic and image-based drawings will be on view in “Works on Paper from a Distinguished Private Collection,” a joint exhibition with Acquavella Galleries and Pace Gallery opening today at Pace’s gallery in East Hampton, New York.

Compositions that feature single words dominated Ruscha’s work throughout the 1960s and into the early 1970s. In both paintings and drawings, the artist presented seemingly random words divorced from both context and meaning, largely selected for their appearance or sound only.
