Margerie Glacier is an icy highlight of Glacier Bay #NationalPark and Preserve in #Alaska and a primary destination for visitors on sailboats, kayaks, tourboats and cruise ships. The #glacier's ice face towers 250 feet high above the waterline, with another 100 feet below the water's surface. Born 9,000 feet up in the snow-fields of the Fairweather Range, Margerie Glacier is 21 miles long and moves an average of 6 feet a day. As the flowing ice moves beyond the submerged valley floor, it breaks off and calves into the sea in spectacular fashion, sending massive chunks of ice splashing into the water and causing huge waves. It's super cool. Photo @glacierbaynps by Sara L. Tolwin (www.sharetheexperience.org). #usinterior #glacierbay
